Dorothy earned her bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech where she performed with  the New River Valley Symphony for four years.  After graduation she joined the Charlotte Civic Orchestra in 1999. 

During her years at Virginia Tech she studied under the direction of James Glazebrook of the Roanoke Symphony.  Other major teachers and mentors include Camellia Carroll, Kregg Stovener, Jennifer Gehl, and Margaret Kim.
